A Thread: As a Pentecostal, who believes in and has had real experiences with what I would describe as “the Power of God,” I have to ask, why would we ever choose earthly power over the heavenly? And why would we allow earthly powers to attempt to manipulate our heavenly power?
I’ve seen people do this on all ends of the political spectrum. The light is on conservatives right now because of Charismatics (not a Pentecostal) like Paula White. But if Biden becomes president it will continue with different people.
It’s also not new. The co-opting of heavenly power for earthly gain is as old as time. There is a name for it, simony. I am not saying we shouldn’t be involved in the political process, but the Lord’ Prayer indicates we are to pray God breaks in and changes our institutions...
Not validate them. God’s Kingdom come, not God’s Kingdom gives it’s stamp of approval on our kingdom. Ultimately, we know the full breaking in won’t happen until Christ returns, but again the Lord’s Prayer has us considering the now as well as future.
