Seeing the frustration with the Democratic Party from many rural friends, I want to put a few things out there. This is not meant to invalidate real failings, but we do need a reality check. Quick thread: 1/
If you’re someone saying “I didn’t see any Democrats in my area! They’re ignoring us.” Ask yourself this: What did YOU do in your community this election? Because here’s the thing: YOU are your local Democrats. 2/
The @MoDemParty, or any state party of that matter, can’t send full staff into every community. Organizing depends on local engagement. I know for a fact there are active Democrats doing everything they can in rural Missouri. 3/
They’re holding events and doing what they can with few volunteers and limited budgets. If you aren’t donating to them or volunteering or phone banking or canvassing, how are they supposed to grow? 4/
The Democratic Party is as far from a top-down operation as it gets. We run on grassroots engagement and that’s YOU. If you’re waiting for someone else to do the work, you’re going to be waiting forever. 5/
If you donated to Biden or McGrath or Harrison but didn’t kick in $20 to your local committee, how do you expect the local Dems to function? You can’t only engage with national campaigns then turn around and wonder where the local support is. YOU are the local support. 6/
You’re going to hear “2022 starts now” from folks. But that’s not right. 2021 starts now with local elections. Candidate recruitment is happening now. Guess what: that starts with YOU. If you want Dems to be active, go be active. You’ll have help but you have to do the work. end/
