Well said @wendychambLD in Parliament - wealthy countries making up 13% of the worlds population have already made purchasing agreements for 50% of future #COVID vaccines. While the UK might get a vaccine in 2021, 2/3rds of the worlds population are looking at wait of years
This pandemic will not be over until it is bought under control globally. The UK must join global efforts to overcome pharmaceutical monopolies and stop its unilateral purchasing agenda.

@BorisJohnson are you listening?

#PeopleBeforeProfits
Next point: reform the patent system!

South Africa and India have proposed a WTO TRIPS waiver on IP protection during the #COVID pandemic - the UK government should listen to these ideas đź’ˇ
@SarahChampionMP reminds us all of the importance of access to medicines by describing the impact of pharmaceutical monopolies on preventing access to life-saving HIV drugs in the early 2000s

This cannot happen in the #COVID19 response
@LaylaMoran: Ensuring equitable access is not just the morally-correct thing to do, but also the only way to end the pandemic, based on scientific evidence
Questions to the government:

1. Why has the UK government not supported the WTO TRIPS waiver?
2. Why has the UK government not committed to support the WHO #COVID19 Technology Access Pool (C-TAP) and its operation?
@NavPMishra making some key @uaem points to the UK government:

Pharmaceutical companies must not profit off the manufacture of health technologies that were developed with public funding
The UK government must impose public interest conditions on any funding for COVID-19 technologies, ensuring that:

1. Patents are non-exclusive, therefore preventing dangerous monopolies that push up prices
2. Health technologies are produced AT COST PRICE

Thank you @NavPMishra!
@morton_wendy on behalf of the government speaks about the success of dexamethasone. The UK has made evidence based decisions that have transformed COVID19 treatment options.

She notes that the UK is one of the biggest donors to the WHO COVID ACT accelerator and partners
@morton_wendy on vaccine nationalism:

'The UK is challenging vaccine nationalism through our support for the COVAX system'

Our question to @morton_wendy: how will the UK government leverage their position to ensure that the COVAX facility DOES ensure equitable access?
@SarahChampionMP: how will the UK government ensure that the health technologies that WE ARE PAYING FOR will be accessible to all when pharmaceutical companies do not tend to 'opt in' to public interest conditions
@wendychambLD to end: The UK's commitment is critical to achieving equitable access to #COVID19 health technologies and ending the pandemic. We need key commitments rather than assurances.

Thank you to all MPs who took part @SarahChampionMP @LaylaMoran @lisanandy @NavPMishra
