Updated guidance on food labelling in NI contains new & important language. Reference to an 'enforcement approach' is IMO start of an informal phasing in of requirements around Protocol (& could possibly be extended to FTA) given we know everything won't be ready on day 1 (1/3)
This type of approach, where enforcement isn't to the letter of the law on day 1 next year but flex is given to business, not an extension of transition or formal implementation period is how things will be eased in a bit (2/3) https://www.gov.uk/guidance/food-and-drink-labelling-changes-from-1-january-2021#contents
This is better than nothing for businesses & I hope EU accept & take same approach to the FTA. But it does present challenges given businesses will technically still be in breach of rules on day one if not everything is up to scratch. But they know it won't be enforced (3/3)
