The suggestion of 'comprehensive governance' by Beijing in Hong Kong would mean the suspension of democratic elections, the outlawing of a free press, the extension of the great firewall, the censoring of academics, & the end of the rule of law.
Such brazen floating of China's obligations under an international treaty lodged at the UN, could not go unopposed. The international community must make it clear that if China decides to impose direct rule in Hong Kong in the next few years, they will be ready to respond.
