Me too, and let me expand on it. Thread. https://twitter.com/Gitabushi/status/1324339860812025857
There were people I trusted and invested in back in 2016 who didn't actually care about advancing the cultural gains of the last 4 years; the guy who won Wasn't Doing It Their Way. Was it perfect? Of course not. But they wouldn't even celebrate obvious wins. 1/x
I saw some folks who had genuine problems with how things were being run voice their concerns and still pull for the team in big wins. That, to me, is constructive. And that's just from our side. Now let's go to the other side.
2/x
As many who follow me know, I'm living in an academic environment for another half-decade, where I dare not speak my opinion for fear of losing my job. I've had colleagues openly lament that they graduated med school and didn't "end some guy's career", because they wanted...3/x
... to strike a blow against patriarchal capitalism or whatever. I've seen open anti-Semitism and sexist bigotry impede science instruction in med school in the name of wokeness, and watched as "mature" faculty members make it clear that bending the knee was...4/x
..."not required, but not attending will be noticed." I've seen within science instruction actual science get discarded for being "politically problematic", and I resent the hell out of having to walk on eggshells at work. I know many reading this agree. 5/x
I have many positive reasons I voted the way I did, and I don't see someone coming along who's "more acceptable to the people who matter" who can break the media hold on things the way Donald Trump did. As a media veteran, you want to know why people are turning their backs...6/x
...on news media? Because he took the fight to them. And that distrust of the media has crossed the aisle. Bernie voters and Trump voters all despise the media, and it is accelerating media demise.

That doesn't happen with any of the other GOP candidates. I, for one, won't...7/x
...have a lot of faith in things going forward until that becomes SOP from the right; namely, attacking the media back and making them as afraid to attack the right as they are to attack the left. Bullies don't stop until you stop them. 8/x
So to wrap up, I feel quite betrayed by some folks I am otherwise politically aligned with, I have to fear half my countrymen because I'm not in full control of my own career for another half-decade, and the guy who was hitting the hardest at home for me will likely...9/x
...lose in ways that can't help but raise questions about how that loss happened. And rather than go out and mine for the actual way forward, there's already the discussion of what retread to throw out there next and get annihilated by the left/media complex. 10/x
That's only one facet of things, but that's where I am this morning.
