there's a lot of analysis going around about why things are turning out this way, and i feel like a key element missing is a centering of the fact that the right wing media machine (particularly online) is making huge swaths of this country actively mentally unwell

i think we're still used to a dichotomy where there are people who watch msnbc and people who watch fox, and they differ in political views. but particularly on places like facebook and youtube, these are people who are no longer in any kind of recognizable political reality

we are no longer talking about debating smaller government or tax policy or even social issues. we're talking about millions of people who think every democrat -- from biden to sanders to pelosi -- is a communist with a secret agenda to destroy the country from within

i, too, am exhausted with the media's obsession on ~understanding the trump voter~, but whether we want to engage with it or not, this media apparatus is an active threat to every element of our society and writing off everyone who has been taken in by it will do nothing to help
