Whatever its outcome, & well beyond its ongoing tit-&-tats, #USElections2020 underline at least 2 fundamental trends that will durably bode for & weigh on #American politics for a while:

1- #Trumpism (to b def; needs another, longer thread) is now a deeply entrenched new political culture; it has become mainstream & normalized; it will survive Trump himself; remains to see who -inside #GOP or maybe outside it- will incarnate & animate it in the coming period.

2- #America has bec a sharply divided & polarized polity/society; way beyond normally regulated polit divergences, it is the construction of parallel & irreconcilable world views, self-perceptions, & almost opposed counter-cultures. This is what “Tribalization of #US” means.

“Tribalization of the #US” also means that identity-politics supersede other cleavages, that definition of “enemy” is now possibly inward; conflicts becoming less amenable to institutional regulation, political & social violence could become an alternative language.

This means long-term consequences for #US global action & posture:
- Narrower/less ability to intervene abroad, in absence of minimal consensus over #foreign_policy.
- Lower/eroded #American “moral standard” internationally; further fragilizes legit of “world liberal order”.
