I’ve said it eloquently through paragraphs of academic discourse. I’ve made clever videos over the past couple of years to speak with a tongue in cheek. This time I’m going to say this simply as possible:
To simplify the current divide of the US into a difference of opinion is completely tone deaf and embarrassing.
You should be embarrassed by your posts shaming others, encouraging them into taking the high road for the sake of false unity with people who are actively voting in favor for their rights to be taken away, their communities to be underfunded, and their lives to be at stake.
For weeks i’ve read posts from people yearning for the old times where we could “disagree and still get along.” To have this point of view is privileged and absolutely insulting.
Your idea of “Getting along” is surface level at best and means nothing if at your core, your politics serve only White America.
We have to acknowledge that “Getting along” beforehand has always been shallow, as the status quo of white supremacy has been able to remain intact, while black and brown people deal with issues white people will never even consider, let alone endure.
“Getting along” for some of us was simply a means for survival.
After you were done “getting along” with your black friend at the bar, they were going back to a much different reality than you, where they did not have the privilege to ignore the fight for human rights for the sake of fake friendship.
This nation has been pacified for almost a century, feeding most of us false lies that things had changed and that our status quo is a fair one, and in reality, it has never been.

Making a country great “again” is calling for a return to what has come before us. What has come before us is CULTURAL VIOLENCE toward the black body in its every form.

So no, i will not lock hands with you and agree to disagree when you are voting to take people’s lives away. I will not remain friends despite our “matter of opinion” when your opinion is that white supremacy should remain upheld.
If you advocate for Donald Trump, white supremacy is the culture you are choosing to uphold and hang onto. Look around you. You are standing arm in arm with racists. You are standing arm in arm with nazis.
Not an allegation. They have proudly come out and identified themselves.

You are standing arm in arm with someone who sees no value in my life and believes at their core that I deserve less. Dollar, be damned. Tax break that you’ll never see, be obsolete. I ask you today to reevaluate your stance on equality and human rights, as well as your reality.
You cannot get along with and love ME if you wish for white supremacy to remain as the foundation of this country.
