I know there is a great deal of confusion and upset around the regulations for the shut down of pools. As I'm seeing really quite a lot of nasty comments on twitter, I thought it was important to share my feelings and thoughts on it all.....
Firstly I feel the decisions to shut pools is wildly irresponsible and unjust. I can not see any legitimate reason why clubs can not continue to operate under the Covid Guidance as they have been doing since the 25th of July.
Clubs have put in an incredible amount of work to get back up and running, ensuring children's safety and they deserve to be doing so now....
Over the past few days as we have all been campaigning for pools to stay open, many people have mentioned children's mental health as part of this campaign. With the news that schools can allow their pupils access to thier pools, there has seen a shocking amount of animosity ...
As the Director of Swimming at a private school I take my responsibility to my swimmers mental health and happiness extremely seriously. Swimming means so much to so many people, and we are talking about children here. Please be kind and remember this. We....
will be operating here as best we can under our Year group bubbles within the guidance we are given. We are incredibly lucky and these swimmers will be reminded of this daily. Please understand that there are some clubs that haven't managed to get back in....
the pool since the last national lock down. I never saw 1 negative comment from those clubs demanding that clubs in the water should be shut down. Each and every child matters!....
With this in mind, if we are told at any point we can not continue we will shut down. We are not an exception to rules and regulations, we are just following them.....
I couldn't look my swimmers in the eye and say to them, "you can't swim, because people don't want you to swim and think it's unfair" As a coaching team we are more than happy to help anyone at any point. Please do just reach out as per last lock down.
Just because we will still be in the water it does not mean my coaches or swimmers are not deeply upset for the rest of the swimming community.
It is a travisty and something we don't agree with. My sister and both neices work and swim for Nuneaton SC and I am devastated for them. If I could help them and everyone else I would but I can't. Please try and #bekind
to all.
