It’s very unsurprising to me that illegitimate “Métis” groups and individuals are pushing for the pardon/exoneration of Riel.
Riel is not a national hero. He is not a Canadian beacon of minority rights. He is a leader and land defender, belonging only to the Métis Nation.

Removing Riel from his connection to the land, the North-West, and propping him up as some national puppet of reconciliation is disgraceful and anti-Indigenous.

This is what exposes those falsely claiming to be Métis: they have no recognized relationship with a defined territory. They imagine Riel as a wrongfully convicted Canadian, not a land defender who died protecting Métis territory.

The murder of Riel was the Canadian legal system at work. A country built on Indigenous genocide will always treat Indigenous life as disposable.
This is not about pardoning or exonerating Riel, this is about White settler guilt.

And finally, Marilou McPhedran has proven herself to be anti-Métis and she has no business representing the province of Manitoba in any capacity.
