There are lots of GOPers on here saying that they will "dominate redistricting" after this week but that take makes it seem like only the results this week matter - that's not true. Dems are far better off than we were a decade ago. And there is still a long fight ahead.
If you look back to 2011, the GOP had total control in battleground states like Virginia, Penn, Michigan, WI, Maine, and Ohio. They will not have that same power in 2021 bc we already elected Dem govs, flipped legislative seats or passed reforms to make the process less partisan.
I'd note that winning gov/sec. of state/state AG races in 2018 in WI, PA, & MI has been enormously important this week as they count ballots. What happens at the state level is directly connected to national politics. Dems still have to do better & invest more in those races.
We've passed reforms in 5 states that will create independent redistricting commissions or make the process less partisan in Michigan, CO, Utah, Virginia, & Ohio. There is bipartisan support among voters for fair maps -- people are tired of politicians hand-picking their voters.
We still have tools in the box we can use moving forward -- we have litigation options at both the state & federal levels to fight partisan and racial gerrymandering.
Unlike ten years ago when Republicans drew maps in secret, there will now be public pressure on them. We have built an army of grassroots volunteers through @allontheline to force transparency and accountability on the map-drawing process.
