A tactician needs to be flexible and adapt to situations.

His ability to adapt and tweak his tactics accordingly defines how efficient he is.

HOW MOURINHO'S ADAPTABILITY MADE HIS SUCCESS

-Thread- https://twitter.com/NassimFootyFP/status/1324266964198580224
While Mourinho is no longer the Great Special one,

His views on football have changed and influenced the modern game.

For Mourinho, the only thing that matters is winning.

His philosophy of game is based on winning and nothing else.

In order to win, he will try everything.
Mourinho never had a preferred formation.

Wherever he went, he came up with something new (either an old tactic adapted to his current team or totally new)

What however stays constant is his expectations from his players:

They need to spill their gut on the field.
For the players to give him what he wants, Mourinho will impose a certain style

However, he will make sure to only play those who benefit the team the most

In their preferred position.

That is why he has often sacrificed good players.
Mourinho adapts to his squad abilities and depth.

Mourinho adapts to his opponents.

Mourinho DOES NOT adapt to individuals.

Often criticized for transfers, it is also worth mentioning that *besides Pogba*,

the players he pushes for end up performing well under him.
Mourinho was stubborn.

But only for things that mattered.

Mourinho is not only a tactician but a visionary.

He would always focus on the grand scheme of things rather than

What the media want

Or that player's feelings about his playing time or performance
That last point might also be what is causing Mourinho's fall.

Players do not trust him anymore.

He might have become too confident and less understanding

He might have started to be less flexible.

And it all comes down to that.
