THREAD. We are devastated to learn once again that while cinemas, bingo halls and museums and galleries are able to open, the doors to our theatres will remain shut, despite the expertise that has been developed in following Covid safety and social distancing rules. 1/6
Given the numbers of people who will be able to congregate - albeit in a socially distanced way - in some of these venues from next Monday, it makes no sense to penalise professionally run theatres in this way. It’s simply unfair and unjustifiable. 2/6
We urgently need a clear roadmap from @WGCulture for the reopening of our theatres in Wales, to build on the testing events we have already done with smaller audiences. 3/6
Without it, we could see some of our most iconic venues being unable to open for the best part of another year. That would have a massive impact on the sustainability of our theatres and severe consequences for the livelihoods of the many individuals who work in them. 4/6
Extract from Welsh Government Coronavirus Regulations:
"Theatres & concert halls, nightclubs and sexual entertainment venues are still required to be closed. We will shortly be re-publishing guidance for the phased re-opening of culture and heritage destinations, which includes
guidance for the re-opening of theatres and concert halls when conditions allow.
Other venues, such as cinemas, bowling alleys, skating rinks, museums, galleries, bingo halls, casinos and amusement arcades are allowed to be open subject to following the social distancing rules."
