We discovered this case study in stage 5, as @EmilyDreyfuss was putting together a case study on a cheap fake that Trump posted. When we dug in, we realized that Twitter was already taking actions to stop the spread of #bidencrimefamily, but why? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/05/opinion/trump-twitter-biden-misinformation.html
Content moderation decisions are not arbitrary. It’s more important than ever we have transparency from these tech companies about the actions they are taking daily. But what’s crucial is that we know there is a pattern to disinformation campaigns. Twitter tried to break the circuit, but there was an adaptation (called typosquatting) by political elites that trickled down throughout their followers and subscribers: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/05/opinion/trump-twitter-biden-misinformation.html
