So you’ve probably seen tweets flying around about William Bradley, a dead man in Michigan (b. 1902) who apparently voted by mail.
Let’s dive into it to get a sense of how these narratives form and why so many seem to believe them. /1

So the instigator here seems to be some dude named Austen who who goes by Fleccas online. He posted this 7h ago: https://twitter.com/fleccas/status/1324216584219623424?s=21
At first blush it seems kinda compelling, as you can indeed follow his steps to recreate the screenshots. Some office in Michigan really did receive a ballot entered in the name of a dead man.
Of course, there’s always more to the story... /3

The sensible place to start is looking for an obvious clerical error. Say two people with the same name (perhaps father/son) who share the same address.

Now you might wonder why the original guy didn’t do this rather obvious search himself first, or why he didn’t acknowledge the new information when presented. And, well, I reckon after a quick look at his content you won’t have to wonder too hard.

Now I don’t know this guy. All these professional clowns with the same haircut trying to be the male Tomi Lahren all kinda blend together in my mind. But notice the specific wording here: https://twitter.com/ryanafournier/status/1324221917398781959
What makes him so sure the ballot in question was cast for Biden?
Certainly not actual evidence. Because no public database divulges this.
My money is on his 2.1 GPA and/or his crippling desire to get noticed.

Anyway, be mindful that Dollar General pundits like these two are all the same. They’re in the attention business, not the credibility business. Feed them at your own peril.
As a PS, I should be clear that my problem isn’t that they’re pro-Trump. People support who they support. My problem is that people like this are willfully disingenuous in a way that’s terrible for democracy.
