Let's take a closer look at this article from #WhatstheissueRachel. A thread.

It seems to me that keeping hotels on retainer is a smart move given that we couldn't possibly know how many people were to arrive and therefore how many hotels were needed. #MurdochRoyalCommission https://twitter.com/rachelbaxendale/status/1324301817660911616
Wouldn't you rather we pay more hotels than needed? It would be very awkward if international travellers were to arrive and we didn't have a place for them to stay. You can't just click your fingers and have a hotel instantly ready. #MurdochRoyalCommission
The fact that this company is Chinese is irrelevant. A former employee is quoted saying "so I guess that money just went to China". This is clearly a cheap attempt to play into the Dictator Dan / Communist Dan nonsense. #Thisisnotjournalism #MurodchRoyalCommission
It is terrible that this company has workers who are unpaid. However, #NewsCorpse hasn't cared about unpaid workers or wage theft before. They only 'care' now because they can use it against Dan. #IStandwithDan #MurdochRoyalCommission
$500k is nothing! Compare that to the millions the Liberal Government has given to #NewsCorpse over the years, including $20 million earlier this year. I didn't see any #NewsCorpse stories about that waste of taxpayer funds. #MurdochRoyalCommission
The only legit issue raised in this article is the visa fraud. The company was sanctioned by the ABF 6 days before receiving the hotel quarantine contract. Was the Vic Government aware of these sanctions? Probably not, the article doesn't claim so. #MurdochRoyalCommission
If the Vic Government wasn't aware of it, then they can't be criticised for using this company. If @rachelbaxendale can prove the Vic Government knew then that would be a different matter but if she had that evidence she would have included it. #MurdochRoyalCommission
The company going into administration has nothing to do with The Vic government. #MurdochRoyalCommission
'Coate is on Friday due to hand down an interim report as part of her investigation into breaches by private security'

That is false, that is not the objective of the inquiry. The terms of reference are much broader than that. Cheap journalism. #MurdochRoyalCommission
'will add to the pressure the Coate inquiry is facing'

The inquiry is not under any pressure. They have all the resources and time that they need. They will reduce an independent report without bias. #Thisisnotjournalism #MurdochRoyalCommission
'following initial failures to request key documents, including communication records'

It is not up to @rachelbaxendale, #NewsCorpse, @SkyNewsAust or #LNPeta to decide what questions the inquiry should ask or what documents / records they should request. #MurdochRoyalCommission
Additionally, re. the inquiry not requesting the right evidence; this is a clear attempt to delegitimize the report before it is released. Pathetic journalism. #MurdochRoyalCommission
Apparently hotel staff knew the hotel was in financial trouble months prior to getting the quarantine contract. This is not at all relevant to the Vic Government. To be fair I guess it is relevant to the article.
Anyway, clearly I hope those employees who are owed money / super get it. This thread is not an attack on the employees quoted in the article.
As pointed out here, this was all done on short notice. There wasn't time for a tender or all the tedious checks for a Government contract. There was less than two days to get it sorted and that's on @ScottMorrisonMP #MurdochRoyalCommission https://twitter.com/artfulbungler/status/1324327103169323009?s=20
Exactly! These rooms needed to be secured! It was a mad rush to get prepared. Again, better to have more hotels than not enough.
I don't care for nor trust the words of anything put forward by an anonymous @rachelbaxendale witness. #MurdochRoyalCommission
Ok, I think I'm done. Tweeting about 'articles' is certainly much easier than subjecting yourself to a #LNPeta 'documentary' 😉

Anyway, a terrible article with clear bias. #Thisisnotjournalism #MurdochRoyalCommission
