Good thread. I think this is even more acute on local election nights. Sunderland Council is obviously a particularly stark issue, in that you can (I did!) read about the specific local issues at play there on the BBC's website, but it did not intrude into whether that *might* have been a factor in Lib Dem gains there: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-46828400
I'd say, at a guess, that 50 per cent of our 'here's why the BBC's take on what just happened in that council election is facile' stuff on our liveblog is information we picked up from BBC local news earlier in the year, 30 per cent shoe leather, 20 per cent sources.
They could and should overwhelm our present niche so we could instead break new liveblog territory by taking, say, different-coloured shots when various parties gain seats and liveblogging the results.
