A lot of left intellectuals correctly seeing that many wc people voted for DT seeking status, but then incorrectly assume they want it to dominate or feel superior, what they want is to stay out of the underclass, for their children to have the status to marry and stay employed
There's a status threshold that when a proportion of men fall below it, everything unravels, drug use, gambling, out of wedlock births, violence, dependency, eventually it becomes a downward spiral such that even when good jobs begin returning, no one can hold one down
Liberals tried education, but that only had the effect of siphoning off future leaders and making them high paid professionals in upper class suburbs, conservatives scolded them and cut their measly welfare benefits, deep down both believed the underclass deserved their poverty
Communities need stable jobs and norms of reciprocal obligations, men need those jobs to come with enough respect so women will consider marrying them, this is the baseline for a stable society, no party has committed to this project, each one continues to undermine one leg of it
Both parties have the ideas to address the underclass, theory isn't the problem, the problem is that Dem and GOP institutions are neoliberal to their core, even if a Sanders, Warren, Hawley, even Trump rises they are instantly disciplined by their respective professional classes
There's no workers revolution coming, the only solution I see rn is for populists to begin the slow march, anything that can be captured, local government posts, schools, universities, nonprofits, think tanks, give the boomer liberals a nice retirement send-off cruise or whatever
