~ Gilbert's breakfasts ~

In season 1 he is taking care of his father and no one is really taking care of him. Making his father's breakfast in a cold house, just an apple for him. Running not to be late at school.

Wrapping just a quickly made sandwich for his lunch (no wonder he is skinny!) and feeling guilty for leaving his father alone. "I'll be home straight from school."

Season 2's breakfasts are porridge (almost edible!) and studying. But he's got his brother Bash, and that makes a lot of difference.

In season 3, the house is metamorphosed by Mary's warm presence. This is the home of a family. It's lively, and people care about each other. The colors are warm too, we can feel the love.

Another family breakfast. Teasing, smiling, caring.
He can allow himself to be just a boy.

Mary can no longer take care of them, she is sick in bed. The porridge is back...

Taking care of Dellie, cooking, comforting Bash... boyhood is definitely over...

Gilbert dressed like a man, going to take his exams, but still a boy at heart. Looks like he is going to cry with gratitude.
