JACK GREALISH versus FRANKENPEP'S MONSTER ⚔️
(A short #FPL story in THREAD format 📖🧵)

On this week's pod, I introduced a really unscientific comparison to underscore the big role the talisman picks play in our squads - especially for this season with its unique challenges...
I was looking to create a simple comparison between a nailed Talisman v not-so-nailed options around the same price to show how important (and valuable) #FPL talisman are.
After last GW's 15 pointer, recency pointed me towards one stellar talismanic performer as a test subject:
As we're only in GW7, I decided to add in all of last year's data to look at Jack Grealish's data profile.
I'm keeping it simple by only looking at mins played, goals, assists (incl #FPL ones), price (obviously, that's for right now and I don't care if you disagree) and points:
Next up, we needed to find a not-so-nailed option to compare him to.
I was thinking: where can we find a not-nailed option (or options) with middling pricetags and a decent ceiling for returns? 🤔
Naturally, all roads led to one man & his team of perpetual #FPL rotation threats:
But I soon realised no-one 💯 fitted the bill.
Of the players who roughly fit the #FPL parameters: Mahrez was too expensive; Foden too cheap; Bernardo hasn't played much in 20/21.

It dawned on me I'd need to get creative.

I'd need to create a Monster...

FrankenPep's Monster 😱
BTW
In case you didn't know, the Monster itself is NOT "Frankenstein"!
The scientist who created the monster in Shelley's novel - Victor Frankenstein - often has his name mistakenly conflated with the Monster but this wasn't a Jekyll+Hyde nor Hulk+Banner tale.
...so now you know!
Anyway, to create our FrankenPep's Monster, I mapped out all the same data points that I did for Grealish for our three v̶i̶c̶t̶i̶m̶s̶ Man City players.
Again, this was from the start of the 2019-20 season until now:
Then, using sinister powers (known as "finding the mean" in technical circles) we fuse the three unfortunate players together to create a figure most hideously deformed and loathsome - FrankenPep's Monster, a splicing together of the three players into one average score ✂️🔬🪓:
Hard work done, the time had finally come!
I brought Jack Grealish back to compare him to my newest creation, upon which few mortals could gaze due to the horror of its grisly countenance (especially in terms of statistical rigour!)
I waited with baited breath for the outcome...
The result:
Super Jack slays his foe comfortably across all measures in a talisman dub ✌️🏻
Our talisman specimen gets you more bang for your buck over the course of time for the same money, illustrating how a gluey main man like Grealish is normally the more valuable #FPL pick 👀
What's the meaning of the story?
Clearly, it's a very unscientific method, but it further illustrates how the nailed on talisman can and does outperform our flakier options.
If you have the choice between a FrankenPep's Monster and a talisman, pick the talisman every time 🧿💪🏻
I did the above in the context of our pod this week, during which, @WGTA_Nick, top guest @FPL_Heisenberg and I looked at how #FPL managers best tackle this year's unique challenges in a cracking episode 🎧🔥

No idea what a talisman is and/or interested in finding out more?
Catch up with the summer article below in case you missed it!
Caution: long read ⚠️
(we'll likely update on this in the next few weeks, possibly ~GW13 at 1/3 through the season) https://twitter.com/WGTA_FPL/status/1295299499699712001?s=20
Obviously, this story isn't aimed at the literal minded.
Unfortunately, I've got to add this nonetheless....
Thanks for reading!
Thought I'd experiment with something different instead of a standard ICYMI, hope you enjoyed it 🧪
Nick and I will be back (possibly with @FPLStag depending on exams) next week prior to the abyss of the next IB 🎙️
YUGE h/t to @JdotQueralt for "Frankenpep" 👏🏻
