Caring for ourselves is more important than ever during lockdown, but when enjoying the coast in winter it's also important to care for our wildlife - and it's so easy! Just remember to ✋Stop 👀Look 👂Listen for wildlife before heading down to the shore! 1/5
✋Stop: Before you access the shore or let your dog off the lead, check for any dangers to yourself, your pet or others. Check for other dogs or people, livestock or dangerous surroundings like cliffs or incoming tides. Keep your dog on a lead if there are dangers around 🐶2/5
👀Look: to see if there are any birds feeding or roosting on the shore. Keep your dog on a lead if you can see birds on the shore. This is especially important 2 hours either side of high tide as birds have less space to rest and are easily disturbed 3/5
Listen: take a moment to listen for birds, seals or other wildlife that is nearby. Keep your dog on a lead if you can hear wildlife. Animals may be hidden out of sight behind rocks or in ditches, or may be cleverly camouflaged 4/5
If you can’t detect any wildlife, you can access the shore. Only let your dog off the lead if you know it will come back when called. Stop look and listen to keep wildlife safe this winter! 5/5
