@NorwInst has been involved in research at Tegea since the 1980s, before the institute was even established. The institute teams excavated the temple and the sanctuary of Athena 1990 to 1994, and in 2004 under the leadership of @UiB Prof. Erik Østby.
The temple is located in the ancient #Arcadian city of #Tegea, and it has had a great impact on the history of monumental #architecture and #sculpture in Greece, and it’s considered to be one of the most important shrines of Athena in Ancient #Greece.
Although famous for its #Classical period remains, figurines and other objects found on the same location demonstrate human activity at the site back to the 4th millennium BC.
