Short thread: Jose Mourinho wanted a CB in the summer of 18/19 - the board flat out refused because they thought they knew better, Woodward even admitted it.

There was a falling out with Pogba - the club sided with him over the manager. Pogba still wants to leave.
Mourinho wanted the likes of Perisic - the board deemed him too old. The same Perisic that won a treble with Bayern a few months back and scored against Real Madrid a couple of nights ago.

Mourinho is the only man post-SAF to deliver CL football in two consecutive seasons.
After qualifying the second time in a row - and signing a new contract just a few months before - you’d expect the backing to be substantial and aligned with the manager’s belief. Had we done that instead of undermining him, we might be challenging now.

Scrap might, we would be.
Mourinho called out the board because of all this. Put pressure on them publicly. Put pressure on some of the players publicly who continue to underperform 2 years later.

The only revisionism around Mourinho’s tenure is that it was HIS fault for the ‘toxic’ atmosphere.
A ‘toxic’ atmosphere that still delivered a better start to a season than both of Solskjaer’s with a ‘happy’ squad.

The idea that we still blame Mourinho is ridiculous. The last man to try to uphold the standards of this club. We got set back years the day he was sacked. Fact.
I’m getting a lot of tweets about Mourinho and how he was ‘toxic’ and how Solskjaer had to sort out ‘his’ mess.

He threw his toys out of the pram - yes. This squad finished 2nd a few months before. There was no mess to clean, just a man who had higher ambitions than United.
