It is worth pointing out that some state laws allow for postal ballots that arrive after polling day, and in at least one case up to November 10, to be counted if they are postmarked on or before polling day
Not a new law, it was law in 2016 when Trump won #CountEveryVote
And then if a court was to order a manual recounts add to the ‘excitement’ a manual recount in a state with 4 million votes cast would be quite a thing and take ages
And I always look back to the Washington State governor election held on November 2, 2004
Washington law allowed until November 17 for absentee ballots to arrive
Republican Dino Rossi was declared the winner in initial automated count and again in the subsequent automated recount
After the third count, and second recount done by hand, that Christine Gregoire, a Democrat, took the lead by a margin of 129 votes
The totals
1,373,361
1,373,228
That is a lot of votes to count by hand
Gregoire was sworn in as Governor of Washington on January 12, 2005 but it didn’t end there and Rossi kept fighting and it went to court, even after the formal swearing in he refused to concede
He then demanded a new election, a fresh ballot
And then and this might sound familiar ....

The Republican Party filed a lawsuit in Chelan County Superior Court contesting the election claiming ‘electoral malpractice and sabotage’
The judge ruled against it, citing lack of evidence of deliberate electoral sabotage...

Eventually Rossi and the Republican Party conceded defeat on June 6 2005 - seven months after the election
Chairman of the Washington State Republican Party Chris Vance stated that he was "absolutely convinced that King County is trying to steal this election”
Familiar language
The National Rifle Association sent a mass e-mail on December 14 to its members asking for volunteers to go to King County in order to sit in on the county elections office and observe the recount
And finally to show the similarities (obviously a different election)

On December 21, Republican protestors rallied in front of the Washington State Supreme Court Building dressed in orange and holding signs saying "Welcome to Ukraine"
comparing the inclusion of the some ballots to the election fraud a recently held Ukrainian presidential election

Elections are GREAT
