A lot of mind-bending things happened yesterday, but in amongst them was something really interesting - how news publishers used their podcasts to cover it all. It felt like the first time podcasting had really been effectively used to cover a major breaking news story 1/5
To pick just three examples… First up, the @nytimes, who started things with a four hour live broadcast of The Daily - an experiment that worked extremely well 2/5 https://twitter.com/mikiebarb/status/1323731908799401984?s=20
Then, the always excellent Today In Focus from The @Guardian released a fantastic overview of the night with huge numbers of contributors that clearly took a hell of a lot of planning and resource 3/5 https://twitter.com/AnushkaAsthana/status/1323912157583626241?s=20
And finally, one of the real stars of this election, Americast from @BBCSounds, released two episodes which were genuinely the best place to go for up-to-date information at the time 4/5 https://twitter.com/dinosofos/status/1324056842969010176?s=20
Happy to be corrected but I really don’t recall such an investment on this scale into podcasting to cover breaking news like this before, or indeed it working so well - a joy to hear 5/5
