I had to close a busy dual carriageway a couple of hours ago, in the last hour of my night duty.

It was shut for about 40 minutes and these are my observations from that 40 minutes.......

1/
1) Police & other agencies don't close roads for fun. If you think running up and down with arm fulls of cones is fun then you're wrong!

2) No matter how urgent your delivery is, it is never acceptable to reverse an articulated HGV down the carrigeway (unless directed to do so)
3) Standing in the carrigeway, even if traffic is stopped, is incredibly dangerous. It also delays emergency vehicles trying to get through.

4) Shouting "jump" at a person in distress is absolutely disgusting, and if I identify you I'll make sure you are prosecuted!
5) When an emergency worker is clearly trying to put kit and cones out, or retrieve them, squeezing through a gap at speed is very dangerous for that worker.

6) A live carriageway is probably the most dangerous environment I routinely work in, please don't make it more so.
7) If we could all show a little more compassion, a little more patience and a little more humanity the world would be a much better place.
