Gordon's ridiculous 2007 season saw him also clinch the most points earned with 2 races to go over Jimmie Johnson.
Assuming Gordon started each race (minimum of 34 pts), he nearly clinched with 3 left, as @JimmieJohnson would have needed to make up 541 points in 3 races.

And of course why not, Dale Earnhardt rounds out this list with his 7th Championship. He clinched it by winning the 1994 AC Delco 400 at Rockingham, with 2 races remaining.
