- The 12 Adityas & their associates.

The 12 Adityas are the different form of Surya Dev in different Puranas their names are given differently.

In each month of the year, it is a different Aditya who shines.

As Indra, Surya Dev destroy the enemy of the devtas.

As "Dhata" he creates living beings.

As "Prajanya" he shower down rain.

As "Tvastha" he lives in the tree & herbs.

As " Pusha" he makes foodgrains grow.

As "Aryama" he is in the wind.

As "Bhaga" he is in the body of all living beings.

As "Vivasvana" he is in the fire & helps to cook food.

As "Vishnu" he destroy the enemies of the Devtas.

As "Amshumana" he is again in the wind.

As "Varuna" he is in water.

And as "Mitra" he is in the moon & in the oceans.

The chariot of Surya Dev is pulled by 7 horses, hence he is also known as "Saptashva".
