Feeling grateful tonight for everyone who makes elections possible in our NM community-from the voters who showed up in extraordinary numbers during unusual times to the incredible volunteers and officials statewide who made it safe & easy to cast a ballot and counted every vote.
As we await the national results and reflect on the deep and necessary work yet to be done, we also have many significant results to celebrate here at home.
New Mexico became the first state to elect all women of color to its House delegation, including my friend and ABQ’s Congresswoman @RepDebHaaland, and for the first time ever we have a female majority in the state House.
@benraylujan will continue to represent our state as the first Latino U.S. Senator elected by New Mexico since 1977.
Harold Pope Jr. was elected to the State Legislature as the first Black state Senator in our state’s history and we elected a historical number of LGBTQ and women legislators.
I am so grateful for everyone who ran for office and for the enduring strength and resilience of our community. I look forward to our continued work together.
