It occurs to me, as I read Lilley’s cynical view of human nature, why conservatives promote the idea that everybody is corrupt.

And then I wonder how many panels of paid “experts” has Kenney commissioned in Alberta.

Is Lilley discounting those experts? https://twitter.com/brianlilley/status/1324181159392272384
Because you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Assuming all experts respond to the highest bidder is a cynical view of scientific research and acceptable accounting practices.
Relying on paid experts to recommend austerity measures and subsequently transfer responsibility for death causing policy to a leaderless group as opposed to an individual elected leader is UCP strategy.
It can’t be both. It’s all corrupt experts or all qualified experts. Or is it?

What we have are a cynical group of opportunists describing how they operate and assuming all others operate similarly.

The far right does rely on loyalty vs expertise to advance policy.
But it’s one of the KEY differences between the left and the right.

Trust in expertise on the left is in actual expertise, experience and knowledge.

Loyalty and financial incentive are the factors used on the right, not trust (because there is none).
To be right wing apparently has come to mean that ALL people are inherently corrupt and will do whatever it takes to win: cheat, coerce, persuade, cover up, obscure, smear and bribe.

That’s what Lilley’s premise is in making the statement “anyone can pay” for loyal experts.
So if you find that argument resonates with your worldview, you may be right wing.

In reality, corrupt people can be found in every sector of society. In every cultural group and in every profession. But not everybody is corrupt.
Some of us have principles. Rules that we voluntarily choose to follow to keep our integrity intact. Because we value integrity, fact and truth.

But consequentialist ethics are based on outcomes. The ends justify the means. If cheating is required to win, then cheating is ok.
Worldview, values and beliefs shape ethics and morals. When using consequentialist ethics and far right morals, the world seems to be filled with endless numbers of corrupt and opportunistic people who will do anything to gain advantage. Because that’s how the far right works.
So Lilley is actually projecting his values and beliefs in his retort to criticism regarding the spin he put on the fake scandal surrounding WE and LPC.

He reveals his worldview and his values are so cynical that the belief in principled forensic accounting experts is absent.
He’s correct. Anyone could pay someone to lie about their finances and accounting practices.

But everyone doesn’t. Only those who have something to hide, an advantage to gain, a crime to cover up.

In Lilley’s circles corruption is rampant. That’s what he’s projecting.
In the world Lilley inhabits, no one actually has expertise or knowledge. Truth is merely a factor of the largest bank account accessed to pay for truth. Integrity doesn’t exist, reputation is branding. Facts are manufactured as required. Accounting is creative.
The ends justify the means on the far right. To win an election, smearing and assassination of character is not only acceptable political warfare, it’s required. Casualties of war are unavoidable. WE is just collateral damage. The real targets are Justin Trudeau and Bill Morneau.
Both have a powerful and popular brand (integrity) which must be tarnished if the far right is ever going to defeat the brand.

Mud dirties the brand, and makes electoral victory possible. Therefore it’s justified to throw as much mud as one can possibly can.
That’s how the far right processes political actions & rationalizes their corrupt behaviour. If everyone that surrounds you does the same thing, it’s just human nature, not actual corruption.

The alternate explanation; it’s a criminal syndicate, not a political party.
Which seems more plausible?

Every person in the world is without integrity and willing to do whatever it takes to gain advantage?

Or

The far right is actually just a criminal syndicate calling themselves a party because they want to gain advantage over everyone else?
Realistically we all know it’s the latter. Some people have integrity, honour, principles, commitment and a love of others and the nation in which they reside. Some of them even have knowledge and skills which one might call expertise.
Brian Lilley is not one of those people. He’s someone working to convince the public that integrity is a lie. Principles are phoney, truth is incapable of being determined and better left to those with the deepest pockets.

The choice is up to every individual.
Adopt a hedonistic and nihilistic worldview that separates you from the rest of mankind.

Or

Reject cynicism. Celebrate principles and integrity. Facts and truth, science and knowledge. Recognize some individuals have special skills which confers expert opinion.
Recognize the fraud that CPC far right and opportunist NDP politicians amplified using populist cynicism to gain support from the public.
Recognize the collateral damage inflicted by unscrupulous politicians on WE Charity, youth in Canada, students who did not receive a grant, charities that did not receive volunteers during COVid, and LPC for having lost a finance minister. And an economy missing almost $1B.
Remember this was all accomplished during a global pandemic that is now in its second wave and ravaging Canada. Providing this scandal allowed premiers to ignore safety protocols, refuse to fund safe work and school environments and further exacerbate the spread of a virus.
I’m cynical. Because there is nothing any far right or far left politician can do to erase the stench of their compromised ethics and rotting morals that has created a national emergency for which they have no shame to have been the cause.
I believe some people are cynical creatures. And that those humans should not ever gain power or influence in a diverse and democratic society.

Slime balls have been exposed. Please treat them accordingly.
