As totals continue to come in & the possibility of a @JoeBiden presidency goes up, I’m thinking a lot about @lc_wins incredible work.
Earlier this year, VP Biden committed to #5050in2020 - meaning women would hold at least 50% of senior, senate-confirmable natsec positions.

Led by the fearless @lindsaylrodman , we spent the last few months building a list of women ready to fill those roles. And that list includes more than 1000 women.

In 2006, I was in the car with my dad and @KoriSchake came on @MorningEdition . I was listening and found myself really confused.
She was smart! And thoughtful! And (gasp!) a Republican! (This is funny to me now for many reasons).

I shared this observation with my dad who said “Not all Republicans are bad. Some are even women.” (LOL dad, way to know your audience).
It made me really think about how few women’s voices I heard on natsec issues, because this what I did at 14.

I started thinking about it what it would look like to see only women on @MeetThePress and @cspan (I was a weird kid).

In the 14 years since that interview I have heard and learned from so many exceptionally bright women, way too many to list (though @lc_wins is a great place to start!)
And I realize there are SO many more out there.

If Joe Biden wins, he has committed to implementing an unprecedented shift in national security & defense- because 50+% of our civilian senior leaders will be women.

There is a lot of work to do. And there are so many hardworking, competent, and willing people who are ready to do it- no matter what.
