The popular story is that the public is the victim of corrupt politicians. No! The country is the victim of a corrupt electorate: people who never embraced Western cultural values of democracy, common decency, and freedom of speech.

It disgusts me that around 40% of Americans approve of a president who has led us into the horrors of 2020. They care little about truth or even their own self interest. They claim to be religious but worship an amoral irreligious man.

They claim to want to drain the swamp but turn a blind eye to the most egregious corruption. They claim to want freedom but think and do what they're told. They claim to be tough guys but always carry a firearm.

What do they really care about? I don't know for sure, but I think they don't want to play on a level field with people of color. I think they feel anger and distrust of educated people. But most of all, I think they are awash in fear.

These things can be said by me on Twitter, an old man with nothing to lose. They can't be said by the media (to their customers) or by politicians (to their voters). But as Walt Kelly said, "We have met the enemy, and he is us."
