Not shocking at all to see Mx futbol fans/media turn gender violence accusations into some twisted contest to heighten or harm clubs’ “greatness”, but still 😐
If anyone wants a stat, there you go: 66.1% of Mx women ages 15+ reported suffering at least 1 instance of violence during their lives during a 2016 national survey. I worked in it, and can honestly say that the official # is nothing against the real magnitude of the problem.
What’s being casually thrown around is the pain & hard choices women have to face, sometimes at the cost of their lives. To trivialize & make a spectacle of it does nothing to help victims speak out and seek help, or make people realize the issue can be closer than they think.
