A lot of angry responses to this and people furious the house and senate didn't magically become gardens of leftist thought overnight. I legitimately think a huge part of the left misses the fact that *most* liberal voters are some variant of moderate not hyper progressives. https://twitter.com/lutherlowe/status/1324104447790927874
The voters like me who are pro-choice, pro-LGBT, pro-immigration reform (of some kind), but also have a grab bag of other social or fiscal areas where the they go right (like guns for me), still think of themselves as liberal or left leaning. But they're not puritans and they'll
vote according to their topics of interest. If Virginia signals they'll try more gun fuckery, I'm voting Red in 2022. I'll probably continue to vote Blue in every national election until some radical sea change in the Republican part happens, but there are enough issues I have
with parts of the Democratic platform that I'll routinely find someone who fits me better on the right. I may be an outlier, I voted Red my whole life until 2016. But if I'm an outlier, there's a fuck ton of outliers. Perhaps the issues isn't guns, but there are important issues
that the puritanical left doesn't represent huge swathes of the country on. Bernie Sanders is a genuine man with genuine ideas. But he couldn't win his own party, much less the nation. AOC is a formidable politician who has become the boogey man of the Republican party. But she
speaks for parts of NYC and a lot of leftist podcasters, not Catholic Democrats in Maryland or minority voters in Houston. And there is this bizarre fantasy that what Democrats REALLY need to do is go HARDER left, as though the centrists voters who wouldn't vote for them before
will somehow be convinced by fully embracing the entirety of the leftist wet dream.

Change is needed. Our country sorely needs reform in many areas. And incrementally, they can be achieved. But this overnight revolution many hope for is not happening.
Save the purity politics for the future. Maybe a future America will be interested in them. The votes are still out on this election, but one thing is clear, this massive progressive wave so many predicted is a lot more Pete Buttigieg and a lot less Bernie Sanders.
