#lawtwitter I've heard some of you didn't get articling positions this go around. Let me tell you my story.

2012: Graduate law school, no articling position. Move back to BC and start applying for articles. Make it my full-time job to get a full-time job. Get a job in Toronto.
2013: Do not get hired back. Mental health issues arising from father's death and failed the solicitor exam. Move back to BC. Get called in September 2013 instead of June with my friends and colleagues. End up getting a job in December 2013. Guess where? Toronto.
2013 to 2015, work in Toronto. Realize firm isn't a fit and opportunity comes to move home. Do that.

2015 to 2016: With a place for 9 months. Not a fit, new firm.

2016 to 2018: With a place for 2 years. Not a fit, new firm.

2018 to 2020: With a place for 18 months. Not a fit
2020 to present: new firm. Loving every minute, even the bad minutes.

It takes time to find where you need to be. You aren't going to hit it out of the park. Not every place will work for you nor will you work for it. The test now is perseverance.
Reach out to organizations. Reach out to friends. Reach out to colleagues. Offer to take people for a coffee for 15 minutes of their time. If they can't offer you a job, ask for advice and if they can pass your resume on after meeting you. People will more likely refer if met
Get up the same time each day. Eat well. Stay healthy as you can. Keep up with your meds. Treat your physical and mental self. Reach out to friends.

You have not reached the end of your career before it began simply because you didn't reach the first possible milestone.
We all have different paths to our success. We all come with different struggles and different stories. It's important to remember that you have value, you have worth, and you are not a reflection of your job success.
You are a reflection of everything you have done and everything you can potentially achieve. Hold your head up high. Don't be discouraged. We have all been there in one way or another. You'll find more empathy than you realize. @CDLawyers @tla_bc @Advocates_Soc
