(1/4) I live in #NYC. I just came back from Duane Reade and I saw what appeared to be a Black mom and daughter seeing one another for the first time today after their hospital shifts.
(2/4) Mom was about age 55 and daughter was around 25. Mom and daughter walked the final 10 steps toward one another and the daughter literally fell into her mom’s arms—she broke all the way down.
(3/4) She cried & said, “Mama, I’m so fucking tired of fighting to come in last place.” Mom held her daughter’s head to her chest, stroked her hair & said, “Baby, I know. It’s a marathon for all of us. He won’t be our president forever. Come on, come on, let your mama hold you.”
(4/4) We have always asked and expected so much of Black Americans. We’d better step up and start putting delivering some damn equality and justice for them. #BlackLivesMatter
