alright listen. white folks? you do NOT get to write people off. you don't. it's one thing for POC to say white people are hopeless and i refuse to work with them. it's another thing altogether for white people.
i'm mixed race with white, i count myself as somebody that does not get to write anybody off.
that 55% white woman vote? that is white ladies responsibility. white ladies do not get to say 'they're hopeless' and move on.
this is what i mean when i say it is a life time commitment. if it takes a fucking life time of beating your head against a wall with a stubborn ass mother in order to keep the black community up the road safe? then you DO that.
you may never convince her. but you may keep her from advocating something disgusting and horrible being done in the name of 'liberating' her state.
i've been open about my own family. i have the borderline militia family. i have blatantly white supremacist family. i also have family that *used* to be those things and aren't anymore. bcz i and then another and then another and then another person kept sitting w/them-
that shit took 25 fucking years. THAT is how u and we all need to be thinking about things. and the people you will never change? those borderline militia family? there ARE ways to keep them from turning full militia even if they will always and forevermore be white supremacist.
the goal is not to get anybody to vote democrat. the goal is justice. and a part of justice is working to keep guns out of the hands of white people most likely to shoot.
notice: i am not saying work to save anybody's soul. i am not saying everybody is redeemable. i am not saying we should all get along. i am saying--keeping communities of color *safe* entails we don't get to just walk away from people most inclined to hurt those communities.
