I’m on my way to this event in Pittsburgh. https://twitter.com/pghprotests/status/1323992071829671941
Quite a few people here as of now.
A young speaker discusses Penn Plaza in East Liberty and the residents its demolition displaced.
This person keeps harassing the group of protesters, and now claims she’s done talking. Not quite true though.
Her mask says ‘CNN: Fake News.’
Quite a few cops ahead as the group gets on the move again.
Here’s a view of the group as it moves in Pittsburgh.
Election coverage on TVs downtown as the group passes.
The group arrives back at the City-County Building, chanting “Wake up union town, let’s shut the system down!”
Randall Taylor addresses the crowd regarding Bill Peduto’s involvement in the 2017 demolition of the Penn Plaza affordable housing complex in East Liberty.
“These are times now for radical and revolutionary change,” Randall Taylor says. “We are gonna fight for our city so LGBTQ folks can be a part of things - and really be a part of things.”
Kyna explains why she voted for Biden, saying he is the ‘less of the evils for Black and brown people,’ but says (after this clip ends), ‘I do believe in abolishing the system.’
This person is back. Sound on to hear her singing Lady Gaga for some reason?
AP photographer denied access after he tries to photograph protesters’ faces. Now he says “It’s a free country,” to a protester.
One (1) American flag has been burned.
I’m following a smaller group that has split off and begun marching.
“Bill Peduto go to hell, it is right to rebel!”
Some people are holding traffic flares while this group continues to move.
The group heads toward some highway interchanges, while some people move cones and work equipment into the streets as barriers.
Some bike cops remove barriers from the street as the group starts to move again.
The group walks through some parking lots near PPG Paints arena.
Many police vehicles following closely.
Cops clean up more barriers after some bold folks threw them in the street right in front of the cops.
Police attempt to make an arrest. Cops chase someone out of my view.
Police cleaning more barriers.
Riot cops waiting in the next block as the group leaves. Nearly everyone is already dispersed, I’m standing with some other press and legal observers.
3 press members. 3 legal observers. Many riot police.
Police have someone in custody.
A civil affairs officer tells me and other press, as well as legal observers, to back away. I don’t think legal observers would be able to see in detail the person in custody from where they were moved to.
A bunch of cops, looks like they’re geared in riot equipment, guard the City County Building, which has a small bit of graffiti I hadn’t noticed before.
For some reason police are standing with this person in custody in the middle of the street. Now, they’re walking them back to the spot where they were arrested.
An ambulance has arrived at the arrest scene.
