Today #yegcc moved our city one step closer to #VisionZero. Residents have a right to safely & comfortably navigate their community without fear of being killed or injured by a vehicle.

This is about wellbeing. This WILL save lives. The science, data, & facts are irrefutable.
Today we heard all of the arguments that are used to try to derail progress of safe streets - slippery slope, non-compliance, cost, analysis paralysis, etc.

It was disappointing to see two councillors inciting these arguments through misinformation over social media.

Shameful.
I think a lot of community members are tired of this discussion (& many councillors). Today’s move from 50 to 40km/h IS a compromise. The science & data says 30.

But, I’m hopeful that in conjunction w/design interventions today’s change will move the dial closer to vision zero.
I'm grateful for the voices of Edmontonians who have pushed this convo forward - community advocates, parents who have lost children, families who have lost loved ones. We owe them a debt for re-living this trauma to make our city safer for current & future residents.
Thank you.
