We keep talking about echo chambers. I keep hearing people say that progressives don't understand the alternate universe conservatives live in, which is why we are always surprised and saddened by the votes.
But you know what? I do understand it. I grew up hearing Rush Limbaugh blasting throughout the house. But technology and social media has allowed people to be ever more picky about how and where they choose to get their info.
Which is why I am more, not less, upset. It takes intentionality to only listen to Fox News or only read Breitbart articles in this day and age. What people are doing is actively choosing to not engage with the stories of people who are marginalized in the US, and I'm pissed.
That's what the echo chamber is. There are entire swaths of people whose entire identity has been escaping any and all attempts at confession and repentance of the evils of the American experiment.
I DON'T LIVE IN AN ECHO CHAMBER. I AM TRYING TO PRIORITIZE THE VOICES OF PEOPLE THAT WERE INTENTIONALLY IGNORED IN MY COMMUNITY BECAUSE THEY SUFFERED IN A SYSTEM THAT BENEFITED ME.
Now we can talk about the infighting of progressives all day long :) But I don't want to hear about the echo chamber of progressives. It just isn't the same, and I want to call conservative media what it is: propaganda.
