On the NC Latino vote: The left-leaning @VotemosNC/ @PoderNCAction/ @SiembraNC groups led the most robust statewide Latino outreach effort ever in NC. They likely helped reelect Gov. Cooper, achieved AG Stein's slim lead and elected the first NCGA Latino @rickyhurtadonc. #ncpol
Latinos have never been a monolith, but those in NC are mostly Mexican/Central American, younger US-born citizens and naturalized citizens (yours truly) and don't hail from the same countries as Florida, where Trump's anti-socialism messaging worked and helped the GOP win big.
The number of registered Latinos since Nov. 8th 2016 jumped by 36% to 228k as of Election Day 2020, per @NCSBE. The turnout numbers will speak to how much the engagement worked.
👉👉 The newly-elected Latinos reflect these demographics: Ricky Hurtado who won in Alamance County is the son of Salvadoran immigrants and Franklin Gomez Flores who was elected to @ChathamCountyNC commission is from Guatemala. They were supported by the big outreach efforts.
