Today's (rather late) #WednesdayWritingTips are about pedantic, iggly-niggly things which are still worth mentioning. Little things I often notice in texts - not hugely problematic, but can distract from the reading. Hope it's helpful and you're still speaking to me afterwards!!
1) The meaning of names
If you're using certain character names for their meanings, check you've got the meanings right. For example, this year, I've seen several texts with an 'Astrid', linked to the stars.
But 'Astrid' is nothing to do with the stars.

2) Dinosaurs
Hugely popular in children's books, and rightly so. I ADORE dinosaurs and always have done. There will always be one person who notices you've put a dinosaur in the wrong time period. Usually my friend's son. Do your research carefully! #WednesdayWritingTips

3) Speech marks and punctuation
Please, please, please, please put punctuation inside the closing speech marks.

4) Formatting text
If you're unsure how a paragraph should be presented, or when you should start new lines for speech/action, etc., pick up a published story and purely study this. We learn so much by reading. #WednesdayWritingTips
