vaseline isn’t going to break you out. it is literally rated 0/5 on the comedogenic scale. the particles are very large and do not block the sebaceous follicles.
it’s also NOT a moisturiser! it’s an OCCLUSIVE. it prevents transepidermal water loss through the skin! your skin already has a layer that does this (the stratum corneum) but for many, this layer is damaged through over-exfoliation/stripping products which is why vaseline is 🔑!
you know how green leaves on plants look shiny? that’s because they have their own analogous version of this waxy layer called cutin! just as leaves use cutin to prevent water loss through transpiration, our stratum corneum (or vaseline!) does the same with our skin.
if you have a damaged stratum corneum (or moisture barrier) it means water gets OUT and bad things (like acne-causing micro-organisms) get in! this is why the moisture-barrier is so key! if your moisture barrier is damaged, vaseline can act as an exogenous (artificial) one!
because vaseline seals things in, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SKIN IS CLEAN BEFORE YOU APPLY IT!! if you break out from vaseline, likely it’s because you’ve used it on unclean skin and sealed in dirt!
in addition, because your skin sloughs away dead skin cells everyday... you want to thoroughly cleanse off the vaseline in the morning so that your skin is able to go through the shedding cycle without dead skin being trapped under the vaseline!
not everyone needs to use an occlusive BUT if you have dry, damaged or fragile skin vaseline is a great way to give your skin extra protection against the elements!!

I’ll share an example routine below!
EXAMPLE PM ROUTINE:
• cleanse skin
• apply actives
• apply unscented moisturiser to damp skin (unless on tret, in which case DRY skin)
• use vaseline as an occlusive on top to seal. (all over or just on your dry/damaged patches)
