Latino Dem congressman in Arizona bluntly says what polls have shown for some time: the overwhelmingly majority of Latino voters *do not know* the term "Latinx" and practically none use it, and if you want to win their votes, you should talk to them as they talk about themselves. https://twitter.com/RubenGallego/status/1324071039085670401
One of several sources for the finding that most Latinos don't use "Latinx" (93%!): https://www.pewresearch.org/hispanic/2020/08/11/about-one-in-four-u-s-hispanics-have-heard-of-latinx-but-just-3-use-it/ https://twitter.com/Yair_Rosenberg/status/1324072175935098880
Obviously, there are people who like and use the term "Latinx" in the community, which is why reporters should always ask which term a person prefers for themselves. But in general, major media outlets and politicians should use "Latino," since that's the overwhelming consensus. https://twitter.com/Yair_Rosenberg/status/1324072175935098880
This is anecdotal, but I think a lot of well-meaning progressives don't realize just how condescending and offensive some Latinos find the term "Latinx" when it is externally imposed. https://twitter.com/WitchOfGA/status/1324399017254653956
