Lockdowns vs Focused Protection.
If NPIs and lockdowns had no effect on the epidemic curve or on mortality, will Focused Protection strategies have an effect on reducing mortality among the vulnerable population?
What do lockdowns do & not do?
Lockdowns Do Not SAVE US.

“failing to account for these four stylized facts may result in overstating the importance of policy mandated NPIs for shaping the progression of this deadly pandemic.” 6/n

Lockdowns HARM.
They are immoral.
They steal lives & livelihoods.
They are an attack on our social existence.
They increase total deaths and they push those at the poverty line below it. 7/n
Lockdowns cause unmeasurable psychological damage and possibly more loss of life as a result, particularly in the vulnerable that they claim to protect and most importantly in the next generation. 8/n
The harm caused by lockdowns and social isolation will be as injurious as the post-traumatic stress disorders experienced after a war.
We will all suffer Covid PTSD.
We will all be COVID survivors.

“The task for public health is not simply to consider the lives that may be saved by policy efforts to limit viral spread, but more importantly, to consider the total number of lives saved and lost as a result of the epidemic and responses to it.” 10/n https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4074
“shutdowns vary by a country’s level of economic development, with more deaths expected in middle and low-income countries.“
“Lockdowns can also cause long term health harms, such as from delayed treatment and investigations.” 11/n

“A three-month delay to surgery is estimated to cause more than 4700 deaths a year in the UK. In the US, delays in screening and treatment are estimated to cause 250 000 additional preventable deaths of cancer patients each year.” 12/n

“Reports from India, for example, show that the March lockdown risked starvation of migrant workers, who were forced to return to their homes and leave their jobs, as well as spreading the virus to their home villages.”

“Ontario and British Columbia (Canada) have seen a spike in overdose deaths since the lockdown started.” 14/n

@SWAtlasHoover has warned us again and again about lockdown deaths. Not all excess deaths are COVID deaths. Most are lockdown deaths. 15/n https://twitter.com/swatlashoover/status/1323265995369230340?s=21
If you haven’t heard loud enough and clear enough the extent of the collateral damage caused by lockdowns, listen to this painful testimony, feel what this lady is feeling and then weep for her or do something about.

Common sense supports a strategy that is based on needs.
Just think about this.
If the data shows that dark-skinned people are more likely to be deficient in Vit D while most fair-skinned people are not.
What would be a good public health policy?

The choice seems clear, right?
How come it is not for COVID 19?
Stand against Lockdowns.
Against mandatory masks.
Against forced vaccination.

Do what is morally right.

Save lives & livelihoods.
Assert human agency.
Support decentralized problem-solving.

All that remains now is to hope that the Focused Protection approach can indeed be successful. At least, we know it won’t harm.
Let’s hope that this much is on our hands and that we can protect the vulnerable to the best of our abilities.
Let's get started somewhere.

See all the evidence above against lockdowns. Why is #Canada going back into lockdown?
How is the government justifying the new restrictions?

“the varying levels of economic recovery between red states and blue states demonstrate how top-down policy can be a failure. Strict lockdowns have devastated millions of families' incomes while failing to bring success in suppressing covid mortality.” https://twitter.com/davidleyonhjelm/status/1327060912268742656?s=21
