The reality of a crook/conman in the White House has always been a test of the guardrails of American democracy. Because he has normalised lying, cheating and narcissism and been made to feel vulnerable because of that normalisation he thinks he can get away with anything 1/3

Congress has not stood up to it. Republican Party a total disgrace. Public service has been hollowed out and replaced with croneyism. Parts of the media have tried to be a proper check but they have also fed the polarisation he fetishes. Military/security have done their job 2/3

So the electoral authorities and courts are the last ones standing. They will be subject to enormous political pressure but provided they stay true to the rule of law they can repair some of the enormous damage he has done. In a spotlight this intense he has nowhere to hide 3/3
