A quick messaging thread about why progressives fared so poorly yesterday: take a look at the most successful politician in relatively recent American history, Ronald Reagan, and consider what he did compared to what the Left is pushing rhetorically (no, this isn't about policy).
Reagan spoke in aspirational terms about the innate goodness of the American people. He assured them brighter days were ahead and that America has what it takes to succeed. He insisted that our foundation was strong and that our values bound us together.
What do you hear from the Left? Everyone is racist, homophobic, bigoted, etc., even if they don't mean to be. And even if people do their best to correct their biases and make the country a better place, it will never be enough. We are never redeemable. We will never be good.
Liking the country you live in is now racist because parts of our imperfect history are. People like the 1619 Project fabulists insist that there's nothing good about America because every single thing, probably even liberating Europe from the Nazis at this point, was racist.
Meanwhile, Dem politicians, like Joe Biden, are saying coronavirus won't ever be over. A dark winter! 200K more dead (even though there's no evidence this number is remotely close)! GOP on the other hand talks about opening schools, getting people back to work and a vaccine.
Besides, who would you want to vote for? A party telling you that you're garbage, you'll never stop being garbage, your country is garbage and your future is garbage? Or one that says you're good, you can do it and we can do it together?
And it's not delusion about our shortcomings! It's just pride and aspiration! And those used to be good things, and most people have too much going on in their lives to stomach the level of negativity the Democrats offer them from top to bottom on the ballot.
Democrats are like the friend who only calls you to vent about their problems. They demand your loyalty but offer you no reciprocation. The Green New Deal? Critical Race Theory? That's the best you've got for the average person in this country? Give me a break.
The media already did the job of painting Trump in a negative light. Progressives would have been wise to have aspirational, positive ideas instead.

FFS, their most successful candidate in a generation was Obama. Did they learn nothing?
