I've been following a tiktok account and the Indiginous man is on the recieving end of a lot of hate and backlash. The thing is, he's not wrong.
1. Abuse starts in the home. Our grandparents, parents, "we" know any kind of abuse is wrong but it continues to happen in our communities by our own people.
Knowing this, we blame residential schools. We are individuals and if you abuse your family, that is on you.

2. How do our women go missing? Where did they learn shame, low self esteem, where did their trauma begin. In the home!
We are looking outward for answers and we are not addressing the core issue - mental health and wellness of our people.

3. Drugs/alcohol addictions are not a priority and it's only getting worst.
We are not only dealing with addictions but gangs and the violence that comes along with it. We are exposing future generations to this endless cycle.

His message hit home. Would my gramma's residential school experience justify my behavior and life choices today? I am where I am today because I chose a sober life, I follow the traditional ways, I make decisions that are good for me - physically and mentally. I CHOSE this life.
