Progressive Albertans... take time to talk to your Centrist and conservative (lower c) neighbours. Reach out to find out why they vote the way they do. You will discover their concerns are the same as yours- food on the table, roof over their head, love & care for family.
Sometimes, we vote against the best interests of a greater population because we are afraid. Sure, there is an underlying eagerness for wealth in Alberta. Paint a picture of prosperity beyond O&G. Learn how to give a sense of hope. And then social care for others will follow.
When I knew more, I voted differently. I cannot listen to the divisiveness of some party die-hards in every camp who deeply assume where the divide lies. For most, the divide is not social issues here. Yes, racism and bigotry exist in Alberta. But we can overcome that together...
by understanding each other. We have similarities to the US and we mimic. We have leaders who might idolize and build ideology to match the Trumps of the world. And that is terrifying. But we are NOT Americans. We have Elections Canada, we have far less suppression,
we have the ability to talk with less persecution. I believe the biggest commonality is the fear of a smart, progressive woman of any colour. It is not who we hate that unites us though. It's that we have an economy & system that can set us all up for love, safety and success.
This is what we must cling to. We must fight to keep the systems and structure of democracy that makes it safe to live and love. The US system is set up to work against democracy. The #UCP is picking away at our system. Pay attention. And listen to a conservative. #ableg #abpoli
Not a deep UCP or far right conservative. But listen to your rural neighbour, or your immigrant neighbour, or your Christian neighbour. You might find the common ground that lets us be the best version of Albertans. And from there we can live, love, laugh and protect each other.
What is absolutely misunderstood by some conservatives is that prosperity for one leads wealth for all. No, no. When you build trust, explain to them that systemic oppression of BIPOC & women is holding our economy back. Safety and economy is intertwined. But it's all grassroots.
